“GLOBALIZATION AND MODERN EURASIA: HISTORY, TRENDS, CHALLENGES FOR CHANGE”
30 June – 1 July, 2018.
The Mongolian Association for Central and Eastern Europe (MACEES) and the Institute of International Affairs, Mongolian Academy of Sciences will co-host the 9th East Asian Conference on Slavic-Eurasian Studies in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia on 30 June – 1 July, 2018.
Globalization which is the most important character of the XXI century bringing up numerous common challenges both for large and small states in expanding the opportunities for regional integration and economic cooperation in the world. Each and every state has opportunities to express their interest in the development of international mechanisms with equal participation.
Despite the many achievements in the fields of economic and trade-business relations and collaboration, there are vast differences between the nation states in terms of their social context, set of development criteria, religious and cultural norms, and values that are critical for efficient integration process at this stage.
Many historical events such as the collapse of the Soviet Union and democratic revolutions in eastern European countries for the last decade of the XX century, have brought fundamental changes for nations that are located in the territory of Eurasia. These countries have faced number of new economic and social challenges to be integrated into globalized world during the transition period. In this connection, it seemed to be equally important to establish more fruitful cooperation based on variety of specifics, challenges and common interests of the countries within the region.
As result of successful formation of international economic and trade organizations such as Shanghai Cooperation Organizations, Eurasian Economic Union bilateral and multilateral cooperation between the nation states has deepened and reached certain achievements. However, due to earlier mentioned country specific and inter – relations factors nation states in the region still face some serious problems and challenges that could be resolved via effective mutual and multiparty cooperation and collaboration.
Importance of increased integrated approach and collective efforts for development in Eurasia requires considerable studies on historical dimensions and tendencies, present conditions, opportunities and challenges for the specific countries, as well as for the region as a whole. In this regard, the main goal and objectives of the 9th East Asian conference on Slavic and Eurasian studies are to exchange views and opinions by researchers and academic scholars, facilitate constructive discussions on current and future challenges and to define possible ideas for their effective solutions.
Under the framework of the general theme, following topics will be presented and discussed during the conference:
· Eurasian development: history, advanced traditions; for instance, the Silk Road that has connected east to west back in XIII-XIY centuries, intersection of nomadic and settled civilizations, cultural and religious interchanges;
· Factors and framework for Eurasia development: external and internal policies, challenges of multi-pillar world order e.g.
· An effective Eurasian cooperation mechanisms: possibilities and aspirations of integrating diverse interests of countries in the regions;
· Regional cooperation in the field of culture and humanity: comparative studies and interdisciplinary analysis of social sciences;
Under the framework of the general theme, presentations on political and economic studies, sociology and history, linguistics and literature, philosophy, anthropology and psychology and geographical studies will be welcomed freely presented and discussed.
Abstract/ Paper Submission Guide
Each panel proposal must have at least three presenters, a chair, and no less than two discussants. Any individual paper proposals are also cordially invited.
For panel, or individual paper proposals, please provide the panel title and abstract (300-400 words long) with the full name, CV, contact information, paper title and abstract for each panel participant.
Please send the proposals including all the above-mentioned information to EAC2018UB@gmail.com no later than the deadline, March 2, 2018.
Conference will be held in English and Russian languages. English is preferred for administrative communications.
The conference will be held at Main and Library Buildings of the National University of Mongolia.
Outstanding conference papers will have the opportunity to be published in the Journal of MACEES “Central and Eastern Europe” or magazine “PAX Mongolica”, A Social Science Quarterly on International Relations, Foreign Policy and Diplomacy, the Institute of International Affairs, Mongolian Academy of Sciences.
The Organizing Committee will issue a Letter of Invitation to assist in the visa application process.
Registration fee is in discussion and will be announced shortly.
